Rumble in the Jungle - Holmes Chapel

Fiona Bruce MP congratulates Holmes Chapel Scouting and Guiding Rescuing Rumble in the Jungle

Fiona Bruce MP has met with Scouts and Guides from Holmes Chapel to help champion their ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ Project. A group of enthusiastic volunteers from Holmes Chapel Scouting and Guiding organisations have formed a committee which is managing Rumble in the Jungle after the local schools’ PTAs were no longer able to manage the project.  Rather than see this great community event fail to take place, Scouts and Guides decided to step in and run the event for the first time.
Fiona Bruce saidCongratulations to all involved – once again this confirms that Scouts and Guides groups are thriving in Holmes Chapel and a very key part of our local community.”
Local businesses have already been approached to book advertising space in the Event Programme and children for the schools, pre-schools and other organisations in the village are busy designing a new logo for RITJ 2014 (see below).  This new logo will be used on all promotional material which is being designed and produced by David Bennett from the Print Room in the Village who is RITJ’s main sponsor, and who is donating his time free of charge.
Local residents and businesses are already booking their exhibits and it is hoped to have over 100 displays in and around Holmes Chapel and Cranage for children and their families to find.
The Jungle Safari will be launched on Saturday 12th July with a sponsored walk from Holmes Chapel Scout HQ where all local organisations can participate and raise funds for their own chosen cause.  Everyone will be rewarded with a family BBQ at the end of the walk.
The displays will remain in place over the summer holidays so families can walk, cycle or drive around to find as many as they can – prizes will be awarded at the closing disco for the most successful ‘Safari Family’.
Alison Wright saidAll the proceeds from ROTJ 2014 will be divided equally between the Scouts and the Guides.  Plans have been produced for a climbing wall to be built at the HQ and Scouts are actively fundraising to have this installed as soon as possible.  Currently our members are travelling to Stoke to use a climbing wall, so this will be a great addition to our HQ.  It will also enable our younger members to try climbing as well as providing opportunities for the local community to enjoy climbing locally too.
In addition, Scouts are fundraising for a defibrillator to be installed at the HQ and are working in partnership with a scheme that recycles mobile phones in exchange for the life-saving equipment.  Our target is 450 used phones which will provide a defibrillator housed in a case that can be installed on the outside of our HQ for emergency use.”

The District Girlguiding team in Holmes Chapel are busy fundraising for opportunities for girls which include international trips allowing the girls to develop new skills, get involved in cultural exchanges and work on environmental or educational projects.   Last year three girls travelled to India, this year one will go to Hungary, two to Armenia and one to Costa Rice; next year nine girls and one Leader will be going to Switzerland, the USA and Nepal! As Guiding in the village continues to expand the team are keen to find new volunteers to join them and allow them to give even more girls the chance to take the lead and get involved!
